Barclays Additions - expensive - but where to bank instead?

Now I've sorted my bank account :D I need to sort my partners, well help him to, so looking for info before speaking to him about alternatives.

He's currently got Barclays Additions but only ever uses the breakdown cover, I am sure he can get this for under £14.50 a month. He doesn't need an overdraft etc so that is also a waste.

So I am looking for advice on the following

Which bank account to use instead?

Can he get 'additions' removed from his account?

Should he keep both accounts running until he's had it a while as I know when applying for anything they ask how long you've been with current bank etc?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Has he gotten quotes from Greenflag, AA & RAC for breakdown cover to see how much per month it will be?

Is he happy with the service he gets from Barclays?

Yes, Additions can be removed from the account.

I have been looking on the breakdown cover websites, available for under £100, cashback possible via quidco aswell. I'm saying he uses it, we've ever had to call them out for 2 years but prefer to have it.

Thanks for the info on additions, maybe he can remove it without loosing his account he's had for years. Service wise, never really had any issues with service apart from when they charged him for PPI he didn't want but that got sorted, the manager was good then.

£34 a year with Autoaid. See Martin's breakdown cover article. You pay the garage, then claim the money back, so it's a bit like insurance, but they have a call centre which will send a local company out to you.

Just looked, it's gone up £2 to £36

I use them but haven't broken down yet :-)

Feedback on the motoring board seemed good, paid back within about a week from what I remember

Read through the feedback left on this site. Just booked the autoaid cover for him, going to the Barclays branch on Monday to cancel additions and ask for them to do something about the silly high interest loan he has.
