Can anyone explain NatWest charges?

Can anyone who works for NatWest help me out for a moment?

On 4th April I exceeded my overdraft by £25, 2 direct debits and a switch transaction went through. Completely my fault, I forgot about my Council Tax (wishful thinking!), I paid in to get me back under my linit the next day.

I then received a pre-advice of charges, stating that £28 would be debited on 6th May. Fair enough, I was expecting it and so I budgeted for it and made sure I had enough in to cover it.

Today I have checked my online banking and to my horror have been charged another £30 referral charge for April  This has taken me over my OD limit again and now I will incur more charges next month!! I am trying to budget and everything is worked out to the penny, this 2nd charge has ruined it again!

My questions are:

1) Why have I got 2 charges, £28 and £30?
2) Why was I only notified that the £28 was due to be debited?
3) Why didn't they come out at the same time  there would have been money to cover if they had...
4) How much will I be charged next month - £28? £30? Both?

I have tried phoning NatWest but got someone on the phone who wasn't treally sure what the £30 was for and wasn't really sure what I would be charged next month - this is no good to me -I am trying to budget!!!!!

Thanks!

  • The £28 fee is for exceeding an agreed limit. The £30 fee is for the bank deciding to pay an item rather than them charging you £35 for returning it. These charges should not go through again next month unless you find yourself in the same situation.

Cheers - I'm in the same situation sort of because the £30 charge that has gone through has now taken me £11 over the limit again

If they had advised me I would be getting 2 charges, I could have made sure there was money in to cover them both.

I guess that means charges of £58 again next month - all because a charge took me £11 over the limit. Or will it just be £28 next month for being over but no referral?
