Halifax home insurance, any good!

Halifax insurance for building and contents seem very competive. Saga, my present inusrer quotes me £226 for B/C with accidental damage to both + £100 excess, LLyods TSB £174.14.

Halifax quotes me £156.53 including accidental damage to buildings & contents and £75 excess. I phoned to check the quote and was quoted £136.98 on the phone. Am a bit confused now, thought it will be cheaper online?

I would be grateful to hear from members who have dealing with Halifax and whether their home insurance is good. Thanks

  • Hi

I have been with Halifax for home contents insurance for 4 years. I pay £8.44 per month which includes full accidental damage-no one comes even close. I have never had to claim apart from when my freezer decided to defrost-I received a cheque for £200 within 5 days...well impressed.

    Sorry not much help

If I were you I'd run your details through the Halifax site a few times, as I'm sure there are gremlins in their website. When I recently went to renew my Halifax buildings & contents insurance online, it gave me various different quotes at different times over a period of 2 or 3 days. There was a difference of about £300 in the highest & lowest quote & it took numerous attempts for it to give me the lowest of the quotes once again. Once it finally did, I quickly accepted it & paid, before it changed it's mind again.! I definitely saved money by taking my policy online rather than just renewing it in the conventional way. :)

I've had my buildings & contents insurance with the Halifax for years & have never found anyone to beat their price. With the insurance you also get the Key recovery service for free, and also free legals for a year.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • I used to be with Bank of Scotland as they were recommended by Which and I also banked with them so was with them and when they merged with the Halifax, I thought I'd check my house insurance, contents only, and it worked out about £50 a year cheaper with Halifax. I've never actually claimed with them, I pay just under £12 a month for a two bed flat. I checked again as my insurance is due for renewal in November and the quote I got was for £6.35 but I cut the cover to £50,000 and increased the excess to £100, it also has accidental cover. I've claimed twice with my other insurer, BoS due to accidents, flooding and had no problems. I would imagine Halifax would be the same. No claims at all in last two to three years though, touch wood.

We were insured with the Halifax about 10 years ago, every time I put a claim in I was told "wear and tear" etc.
I am with Direct line now with no problems when you claim.
I know Halifax are alot better now "so ive been told" I might even try them again myself?.
