Plaster and paint or tile bathroom?

Am sorting out the kit for my new bathroom, the thing is I'm not sure whether to tile or plaster the walls.
Any real benefits to tiling over plastering in the bathroom?
Provided the walls are treated and plastered/painted properly, what difference is there between the two?
The bathroom below is pretty much how I'd like mine, the bare white walls don't look too bad.

Your right it does look nice.
Disadvantage of not tiling around the "wet" areas, i.e. bath/ shower and sink, is that when the wall gets wet it causes damp, no matter what kind of "magic" bathroom paint you use, it is unlikely it would stand up well to being continually wet, in my experience anyway....
Just noticed there is no shower in that bathroom, in which case painting might be ok as the areas are less likely to get so wet.0 -
I'd go for localised tiling around the washbasin and bath if i were you. Maybe upto a foot above the basin and upto the ceiling adjacent to the bath (or just the tap end of the bath) if a shower is to be fitted above bath , or a foot or two above the bath if no shower. That way you get the best of both worlds and it is cheaper/easier than fully tiling the walls and alot more functional - plus not so much hassle when you get bored of your tiles and want to change them.

Have you thought about "wetwall"?
We've just used this around the bath etc in our bathroom and I have to say it's stunning.
With wetwall you get the smooth finish that you don't get with tiles, as all the joints are hidden. There are LOADS of colours and finishes available, including some stunning pearlescent and sparkly ones-we went for black with holographic sparkles through it and it brilliant0 -
Should have added. I would be having an exposed thermostatic shower coming out of the wall above those bath taps.
I was planning on plastering/painting OR tiling all over.
I think the tile option is probably going to be the way forward, however that Wetwall does look good, I'll give it a bit more thought.
Thanks for the info!0
