Hi
I own a leasehold flat in London. The buildings insurance (Norwich Union) is arranged by the freeholders and it has slowly been going up each year.
Last year I did'nt get a bill and now I have just recieved two bills.
They have admitted in the letter that they made a clerical error and would like £275 for the year March 2007-08 and another £289 for the year march 2008-09.
My question is do I need to pay the £275? As far as I can see they messed up and that insurance year is now over.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards

from what i understand, it is the policyholders responsibility to ensure payment is made, but if you'd like too send me your policy details (my email address is rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk) I will investigate and for you and can give you a definitive answer.

Hi
my neighbour has the policy details I will get them from her. Another issue is that she recieved the payment demand on Friday 09/05 and in her letter was two letters addressed to me! This is the only reason that i know about the insurance requirements.
We are two flats above a commercial premises (dry cleaners) we each pay towards the buildings insurance each year.
Cheers

To me it would seem that the leaseholder paid the block policy for the building but forgot to charge one or all of the flat owners.
If this is the case it may well sound unfair but I think OP will have to pay.0
