Hi
A close friend of mine has lost her partner in an RTA and has three young children. I need to try and get her some help both emotionally as well as someone to help her with the housework, kids etc
Obviously I am doing all I can but she does not have much support from family etc. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to go about finding assistance?
Thanks Jammy x

Cruse is the big bereavement organisation I've heard about. Been around years.
Also, the Council have some bereavement advice department; I guess this is to give you information about organisations like cruse

They work with adults and kids.

if the kids are under 4 (even one of them) try contacting Surestart or Homestart (usually via healthvisitor but can be contacted direct) they provide help to anyone with a child under 4 for a few hours each week

if i find the telephone numbers i will update
:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T

really sorry to hear about your friend, and I realise how draining it can be on friends too xxx

I was going to suggest surestart or homestart.

I'm a volunteer support worker for surestart and we've supported families in this situation before.

may I ask where in south wales you are Jammy? I'm in Llanelli - I do have the numbers of a few of the other sure start teams.

  • Jammy firstly well done in being pro active about this , whilst there are loads of places in the south wales area to get berevement coucilling , it may be a good idea to as well get her to go to a GP first. I know when i lost a releative close to me i found it enormously helpful to discuss things its also about the physical effects of the shock of losing someone close as well as the mental issues. Some times the Gp practice will have their councelling service in house too.
surestart or homestart are also very good services to tap into as well

I also reccommend homestart. Anyone can refer, even themselves. Homestart is not available in all areas but they have a web page with contact details.

another avenue to explore is to contact the police who are dealing with the case. they may well be able to put you/her into contact with agencies in the area that offer this sort of support

Good idea... but sadly rta was abroad and therefore police are not involved at all.
