Hi,
This is my first job in the UK. i started working since 1st January 2008. My Annual Gross salary is Pounds £ 50,000.
Last week i recieved a P60, which stated my total earnings for year 2007-08
was £13,101.61 and Tax paid £ 3808.98
I feel i have paid more tax. How do i confirm that i have paid more Tax . If i have overpaid tax, how much would that be ( any calculator to calculate it).
what is the process to obtain back the addtional tax.
Also is there a process to check if i have overpaid my NI tax.
I would be grateful if some picks up on this and get back to me.
Thanks

What is your tax code?
If you earn £50K, I assume you are capable of using Google and finding a tax calculator?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Plus you have already asked a question which gives you all the information that you need ...

i have infact checked a online calculator, which says that i am entitled for £2300 as my overpaid tax. I am not sure if the amount said was correct. That is the reason i mentioned in my query.
If the amount mentioned is right, i would like to know what is the process to claim for it.0 -
the P60 says my Tax code is 522L M10
-
You are on the wrong tax code. Contact the HMRC centre noted on your P60.Gone ... or have I?0

Hi, Just forgot to inform you that, my current tax code in the pay slips shows 543L.
Only the P60 shows a 522L M10 -
How many months were you on that code for?Gone ... or have I?0

My Pay slip show 543L since TAX month1. I was on 522L M1 previous to that (which i was for 3 months).0

You were told all of this on your previous thread.

From 1 January to the end of the tax year (5 April) you were probably on "month 1" tax, which is like "normal tax" only it doesn't take into account the fact you weren't earning for 9 months (Apr-Jan), but it takes the standard tax amount from you without giving you any tax free amount.
As your payslip now has a normal tax code you are now paying tax properly.
The amount you overpaid will come to you automatically if you do nothing. Or, if you contact the tax office they will be able to get it to you quicker.
So, as dmg24 says: contact HMRC for your tax office (will be written on your P60).0
