Price is one thing ....... but quality is also important. In a recent consumer test Morrisons own brand batteries came out head and shoulders above the competition for battery life ... and they're pretty competitively priced.Mark0

Why are there never any bargains with C and D batteries?0

What confuses me is that there are TWO different types of rechargeable battery. I have some AAs and some AAAs and my AAA charger doesnt say which sort it charges

Apparently you should never mix the two different types.
Why does it have to be so complicated??
There are 2 main types NiMH and NiCd. Does the charger have one (or both) of these names somewhere in small print or similar?? My Charger allows you to switch between the 2 types.
I believe (?) NiCd are the better option as they last longer, but am happy to be corrected!!0 -

Nope!
My AA charger, Jessops own brand - states it clearly enough that you can use either.
The AAA charger, made by Energiser, doesnt say.Ellie

It should say on there somewhere what type of batteries it is compatible with. Imagine the bad press Energizer would get if things went boom
If you google the model number of the charger, perhaps some other website might be a bit more informative.

NiMH batteries have a higher capacity (will last longer on a charge) than NiCd. However all rechargeable batteries suffer from what's known as self-discharge which means if they're left unused, they will slowly lose their charge over time. NiCd batteries have a lower rate of self-discharge than NiMH.
Put simply, NiMH batteries are better for high-drain appliances (Digital cameras, walkmans, portable tvs, torches, etc).
NiCD batteries would be better suited towards less draining appliances such as clocks, remote controls, calculators, etc.
I hope this helps

the Energizer website has details of all current (!) chargers:

Most seem NiMH but some are both - hope this helps0 -
Surely these are different sizes, so that they will only fit in the appropriate charger?: My charger has different 'loading bays' for each size0

Hi, no not always, mine will take AA or AAA, the contact for the batteries is flexible - mine is Uniross though0 -
first post, so I'm not sure how I link this to someone elses post!
To matureoxstudent - yes rechargable batteries are good, but you can't beat wind-up torches (etc) for camping. They've saved me a fortune over the years and are more practical too, if your son falls asleep reading on the first night or the torch gets switched on in his bag, he's stuck, with windups you just wind them up again! From around £3-£4 they're worth their weight in gold, useful too for toddlers who just like playing with torches or insomniacs solving crossswords!0
