  • Youve got me thinking of that weedy looking guy who was one of the top dogs at Allied Dunbar who blew the whistle on their scams when he retired. In the news every week he was for quite a time.

    Is he still alive or did the he die of ADS ?

    No I don't mean aids I mean at the hands of revenge seeking Allied Dunbar Salesmen.

    Rtired IFA, you are thinking of that right minded person, Joel Joffe who decided to become a gamekeeper instead of a poacher!

    Look at this;

    Joel Joffe, former Deputy Chairman (and one of the founders) of Allied Dunbar Assurance, gave more than £5,000 to the Labour Party in 1997 and £10,000 in march 2001. He served on the Royal Commission on Long-Term Care and along with David (now also Lord) Lipsey, produced a minority report which enabled the Government to ignore the expensive provision of care recommended by the majority of Commission members. He was given his peerage in the 1999 New Years Honours list. (From the PJC Journal, online)

    How many Allied Dunbar policyholders helped pay for his peerage, I wonder? :confused:
  • Yeah that's the geezer. I used to laugh my socks off at him telling folks how much the salesmen made out of each policy yet ten of them could have retired on one years salary he made.

    Dunbar were not paid any higher rates than normal though. The highest commission paid was to Equitable life guys. The company even ran tv ads saying "we invest more because we dont pay commission to anyone" I would have died laughing at them ads were it not for Scottish Ammicable who told them to drop the ad or they'd sue.
