removal of immersion tank, water tank and a new combi a rated boiler

we have been quoted by BG £3122 (after he applied a *shock* 1 day only over 60s discount (we are nowhere nr 60lol)

anyway this seemed a bit dear, the boiler is in the same place, just upgrading to a combi, and removing the immersion and water tanks

any ideas what it should cost, and what trades would do this, if we went the local route? thanks:D

Ouch! That's probably around DOUBLE what you should pay.

In this case (basically a boiler swap), have a look at how much boilers cost at your local B&Q for example and then double it to allow for other parts, the labour and installers profit. The answer might be around £1500-£1600, but certainly less than £2k.

NEVER get anything done by British Gas other than possibly servicing.

    They are con-artists.

Their 'service' 'engineers' are now nothing more than salesmen.

I bet they offered you a power flush for about £800 as well??

    Go here:

Enter your postcode in the blue box on the right hand side and ring up some of the local ones which come up in the resulting list.

Yes, not many people know that British Gas source their boilers from B&Q - you can't move for B.G. fitters in there most days.

I for one second the don't go with British Gas on this. In our last property we were given the hard sell tactic where we felt we couldn't say no and some sort of useless insurance on top. Had a new baby at the time and it was winter but they made it sound like no one else would do it cheaper. Because of the lack of heating and baby we were eager to find a quick solution but ended up regretting the cost and the fact that when we came to our senses we felt duped. The cost was double anyone else!

Just beware about taking the first quote-I had a range of corgi engineers quote, and got a wide range of quotes and many different interpretation of the same regs. If you can, get a recommendation from friends.
I had the same job done as you are planning and it cost me about £2500. As well as the cost of the boiler itself and the removal of the immersion I also had to pay to change the vent from the boiler (the new ones are smaller) and pay for the drain water from the boiler to be diverted into the waste pipe.

Good evening: I wondered what happened...what boiler did you get in the end?

To the OP: at least 3 full specification written quotations from CORGIs recommended to you by a source you trust. The price will be dependent on a number of factors eg. your location, site requirements, the boiler/system components and whether the CORGI follows 'Best Practice' and manufacturer's specifications.

That's not what I meant and you know it - it's a convenient place to check the retail prices of boilers (ie the trade price plus the markup you would expect to pay your fitter as his materials profit).

Besides, everyone knows that BG fitters haven't got time to go to B&Q, because are all tied up on Sales training these days.

If they did go there, they might actually REALISE that they are ripping people off...hang on, they know they are anyway!

For a similar sounding job I am paying just over £2000 (for a Worcester Bosh 30i). Includes powerflush and removal of old water tank / boiler. No new rads.
