extra strong bed?

We have an autistic son (22). He has just broken yet another bed and just wondered if anyone could recommend a bed that would last longer than a couple of months!
many thanks

what have you tried in the past?

would not a divan be the best bet (could prob even reinforce it), not sure how strong the metal ones are either.

perhaps you would be better with a bed made for you, you could try local carpenters or ironmongers and ask for something to be made very sturdy. I am sure they could make something that would stand up far better than an average bed.

    something like this

without the flex from the slats tho the matterss may need to be thincker to keep the comfort factor and perhaps a memory foam mattress may be better as it does not have springs so cant break in the traditional sense. but this is all subjective and i am no expert.

    Thank you for the replies.
We have had wooden, metal, and divans. We probably make the mistake of going for cheap beds. Perhaps we should look at something more expensive which will hopefully last.

What about just having a mattress on the floor?
That used to be very common... don't seem to see it so much these days.

Try - I think its the iron bed company.
Head and foot are iron - solid and indestructable.

Middle bit consists of 2 iron pieces of metal that connect head to foot.
These are on the left and right of the bed with no support in the middle.
They dont need one as they are so strong. These support the boards. Solid pieces of inch thick wood on which the matress goes on.

Mine cost me about £650 for a double about 5 years back and I now have 3 of them and they will easily outlast me.

Dont bother going for anything that needs a support bar in the middle as its weak. Think about using the headboard against a brick wall. If the brick wall would lose out then the bed is probably strong enough.

Sounds a strange test but during one move this happened when movers were a bit careless. Insurance cost for new wall £400. Insurance cost for bed - nothing - not even a scratch.

depending how he broke the bed (ends, edges or middle). I my btl I have wooden slatted beds and within 2 weeks of use 2 out of 2 beds had slats broke.

Got 0.5 inch ply sheet cut to the same size of the bed and placed it over the slats and held in place with cable ties (probably you will have to screw it down to the slats) and 1 yr later still no breakages
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

To be honest there isn't a great deal of difference in the construction of a cheap divan as opposed to an expensive one. The best thing to do is use a seller who has a good relationship with an independent manufacturer. Most of them will make you a reinforced base to order. Beware though that some retailers will add a huge mark up for special orders.
