My computer going the speed of snails on sleeping tablets

Heylooo all you lovely people,

quick question if you dont mind helping little old me:)

Basically I only use my computer for word processing, using MSE, facebook etc etc, no downloading of music or any such activities but my computer has started to go the pace of a snail which has severely overdosed on sleeping tablets

    I had this problem. I did some research and switched off 'Automatic Updates' and it has solved the problem. I did the Control, Alt, Delete thing and looked to see what was using all the CPU availability and it was something called svchost.exe. Right click this to stop it, then go to the Control Panel, Security and Automatic Updates and switch them off. Just remember to manually update every week or two.

    Do a 'disk cleanup' Find it in your 'accessories' folder under 'system' - this will delete all unnecessary temp files form your system, and then defragment your disk too ( Same folder as Disk Cleanup) These are basic housekeeping tools, that will keep your system from being slowed clogged up with duplicated files - especially useful if you do a lot of word processing. It's all safe to do, and will free up and tidy up your hard drive noticably.

    But if you've never done this before, both tools will take some time to do their jobs, so be patient! But it's worth the effort. :)

    start, run,msconfig...press enter goto start up tab, untick all items and reboot, check msconfig again see if any entries have reticked themselves, if so likely its viral/malware read the sticky section on that
    only put back in what you need as you need it, maybe find none of them are actually required
    click here to achieve nothing!
