I have 2 big black labrador retrievers.Anyone who knows the breed will know full well what they can get up too and just how difficult it is to keep things out of their reach.
I find myself checking their poos to see what they have eaten and to discover who the culprit is.The ones with the blue plastic in shows me whos eaten the plastic jug and the one full of egg shell tells me whos eaten the whole box of barn eggs, all 10 extra large ones(he suffered for days after that, greedy so and so).
He is a lab cross! But he has never stolen food before, in fact he would never, ever jump up to get food (which is unusual with lab blood in him!) but as this was in a bin bag on the kitchen floor I suppose it was more accessible to him.
:rotfl: your dog ate 10 eggs? How funny, I wonder why he thought they tasted nice!?0 -
Hiya
The acid in a dogs stomache is very concentrated compared to ours and can dissolve bone prducts quiet well. People who feed raw diets often feed raw chicken wings as the bones can be dissolved well, cooked is obviously more dangerous because of splintering but if he's acting normally and his feaces look normal then I really wouln't panick too much - dogs get into bins all the time and usually cope with not much more than a smelly bottom and some diorreah - obviously some get very poorly but the percentage is very small... hope he's ok0 -
my dog is a lab cross too and she sometimes steals now at 8 years old but its rare.
Sorry if i scared you its just a warning to everyone but it was a westie im sure if he is poorly he will let you know.

He still seems fine, he has eaten as normal and hasn't eaten any grass or anything. His poo has been normal (sorry!) and he doesn't smell! He also hasn't been sick. OH has been on nights and so slept downstairs today so he could keep an eye on him. I haven't noticed any ill effects and due to his size (10 stone and not overweight) I reckon that it would pass more easily than in a small dog.
He is as we speak chewing like a maniac on his Kong (no change there then!) whilst lying on top of OH on the sofa. He thinks he is a lap dog and doesn't realise he os a bit heavy for that!
Thanks for everyone's advice! After 2 and a half days I am less worried now, especially as he doesn't seem in pain and his bowels are normal.0 -
He sounds pretty fine to me then! Thats one hell of a dog mine is only about 7-8 stone

opps i always remember my mum giving the dog the carcus every week and she crunched the whole thing up and didn't die until she was 16! of old age.
I do the same with my dog now now and again she loves it, never realised you shouldn't do it.
Is there a difference with the bones you buy from the pet shop then?0 -
Dogs they are just like kids, you need to watch them like a hawk
Glad he's ok but next time you may not be lucky, can you not ban him from the kitchen altogether like get a dog gate?0 -

He lives in the kitchen, that is where he sleeps and stays when we are out!
I literally was clearing up from a picnic and put the chicken in a bin bag (not in the bin as I was clearing up loads of rubbish so was putting in straight in a bin bag). Then the phone rang, I ran to the hall, came back (about 15 seconds!) and he was licking his lips!
It hasn't happened before and he would never take something in the usually, and I don't normally leave bin bags on the floor! So I am not really worried about it happening again.
He knows not to steal and you can leave food on the table and even though he is big he doesn't jump for it. This must have just been too much temptation for him! I suppose even the best behaved dogs have weaknesses, and chicken is his! :rotfl:
My boyfriend got chips last night and left them open on the coffee table whilst he went upstairs to the loo. He told the dog to "leave it" before he went upstairs and came back and the dog was still sitting looking at the food, he never touched it. So next time the phone rings I will remember to say "leave it"!
PS He is still normal and been 5 days now so pretty much definate he is fine:beer:0
