Yes it can be used with plants, i mix it in with a little compost and use it that way but it can also be used as a direct mulch around trhe base of plants.0

I started composting last year and read on a few different sites that coal ash wasnt good for compost, however wood ash is fine. I have never used coal ash in it but if others have and it causes no probs then it should be fine. Im not the worlds best gardener, so ill follow any advice i can to try and keep my plants alive!!0

Wood ash is a great source of Potash which is an essential plant nutrient for giving good colour in flowers and better taste in fruit and veg. PH is usually above 6 so its classed as alkyline so not good for applying around acid loving plants like Rhodies etc.
Mix in with compost heap or scatter onto soil thinly. Too good to waste!0 -
Charcoal used for bbq is made from wood so not to worry about coal on the plants. Would any firelighters used for the ignition still be hanging around or would they just burn off during the fire?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
