Digital camera screen has flickering lines?

Something else technical going wrong for me today........ (sure there's some kind of weird electrical current in this house....everything is breaking at once!!)

I took a photo on my digital camera fine, took another 30 seconds later and the picture was dark, but acceptable (even though the picture was in the exact same position as the one that was fine, so no lighting change etc) all next pictures are dark but still have a picture as such.

Switch the video screen on and it is covered in flickering horizontal lines, take a video and they are there when I play back what has been recorded.

Does anyone know what could have gone wrong in the 30 seconds between pictures? It has had a new battery a few weeks ago, but it was fully charged so isn't that? It wasn't dropped or anything?

Has it had it's chips? I go on holiday in a week, so obviously will want a camera for that!! so need to quickly find a replacement if this one is destined for scrapping!

Is this some kind of screen of death? I have left it off for a while but still does it even worse when it's put back on?

The camera is approx 4 years old, Kodak CX7430 I think.

Anyoen else had a similar problem?
