VW Golf 1.9 Diesel making a clucking noise

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
When reversing or turning at full lock my car is making a clucking noise coming from the front of the car. No problems with carrying out these functions just the noise. Im not sure if these are seperate problems or the same problem.
Can anyone tell me what this might be and the likely cost to repair because I dont want to get over charged and the car isnt worth more than a £1000.
Id appreciate any advice.

A knackered CV joint most likely, shouldn't cost *too* much to sort out.
If you can try jacking the car up and examining the rubber gaiters on the drive shafts for any splits, there will be one near the wheel each side and two further in.0 -
Thanks mate, Il go and have a look now.0

This will sound a little silly but what would a knackered CV joint look like. The rubber is all in tact on both wheel gaiters.0

You need to determine which side the noise is coming from by turning on full lock in a quiet car park or similiar, as it could be the near-side or off-side constant velocity (cv) joint that has failed.
Depending on the make and model , these can cost upwards of £50 depending on genuine or non-genuine parts.0 -
Generally what tends to happen is the rubber splits and eventually grit gets in and wears down the CV joint. I don't know if they can go of their own accord otherwise though, but I suspect they are subject to wear over time.0

they can go after time, when the grease drys up in the cv joint it will make a clicking noise.
ive just had a set done on my works merc vito for £370 (genuine merc parts) it wasnt just the cv joints they done it was the full drive shafts.
years ago i fitted 1 to an old vauxhall nova i had ,got it second hand from scrappy for £15 fitted myself and worked fine....work permit granted!0 -
Would the CV joint going explain the noise when reversing in a straight line as well? Its a very similar if not the same noise.0

Think you should really get a good garage to check it out for you. It is very hard to diagnose noises etc. over the phone or via email. You end up speculating and could come to the wrong conclusion.....
Get it checked and get a quote.Genie

Maybe it's going to lay an egg?
If it does it when car is not moving then it'll be power steering related.
If it does it when car is moving then probably CV joints.Happy chappy0 -

yes it may,but the best way to determine this fault is to try turning the steering both locks hard each way and trying to drive,if you hear the noise both ways change all c.v joints....work permit granted!0
