Sealing a container for a water feature?

I've put this in the garden forum, but then thought you DIY bods might have some ideas as well.
Making a container water garden.
I bought my pot, and my charlie dimmock book from the charity shop, and have ground to a halt. The pot is ceramic glazed on the outside and unsealed inside. According to good old Charlie, I need clear resin or silicon to seal the insides, available from builders merchants.
The garden centre tried to sell a pot of something at £30. B&Q first suggested PVA, which is water resistant not water proof, then the tubes of silicon squirty stuff. The silicon is ok price wise, as it's in trade packs, but says on the side not suitable for aquaria. Is this because it's poisonous or what? I don't want to put any fish in, I just need to know what to use that will work, won't kill my plants and won't break the bank.
She made it sound so easy........and it's getting more complicated by the day..................help, anyone, please?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You can get specialised sealer from water garden/aquatic centres for sealing concrete and other pots. The one I have in mind comes in a blue tin and is about £12 (I think). Why not phone up a local aquatic centre and ask their advice?

I wouldn't have thought tubes of silicone sealant would be much good, it is too thick and would be hard to spread around and get complete coverage. Would also need quite a few tubes.
It should not be toxic to fish once fully cured but I assume it is not suitable to be used permanently in contact with water and that aquarium grade silicone is better quality.
As mentioned you need a paint on coating (check it is suitable for use underwater), otherwise can you get a bit of pond liner or a plastic tub as a liner for the pot.0 -
If colour/finish doesn't matter you could try painting the inside with bitumen paint.
It's used for sealing flat roofs (So is water proof) and is cheap (About a fiver a tin).
Alternatively, you could try phoning a local swimming pool company, explaining the problem an asking what they use to seal concrete swinning pools.0
