whats cheaper - winter or summer???

winter:
-central heating on a lot more
-more hot baths
-more fuel to run car when cold

summer:
-clothes need washing more often
-air con in car uses more fuel
-fridge+freezer working more

just a few there i'm sure there are a lot more.. overall do you think its cheaper being too cold or too warm?

Why do clothes need washing more often?
I've never seen a car with air-con. Turn it off, open the window.

    Summer is definitely cheaper.
    - less lightbulbs needed
    - hot water doesn't need to be heated as much for baths/showers
    - clothes dry outside so you're not tempted to dry them using any form of building heating (e.g. turning on heating or leaving it on as you've stuff near/on the radiators; turning on a fan heater to finish them off so you can get them put away)
    - clothes you wear are lighter in weight, so more fit per washing machine full

However, summer is more expensive because the sun makes you want to go out and when you're out you spend money on things without even realising just because you're at an event or merely wandering round. You could probably heat your house for the day for the cost of 1 ice cream on a beach.

That's true about the ice cream - I suppose we do need to get the bills in perspective - don't we. I would think defo summer is cheaper - dry washing outside, no heating. We have air con in our car, but only use it on motorway as otherwise it is windows down, messy hair!

Turing off the air-con in your car and opening a window is not going to help the fuel consumption if you are going at any speed, and not going to cool you if you are stuck in traffic.

I'm off to get some ice cream. Lovely.

I do mostly motorway miles and when I had air-con on nearly all the time last summer I got about 50-60 miles less on a tank of petrol. The next tank I kept it off and opened the windows and the mpg went back up. So, yes it does make a difference at higher speeds.
