We want to be able to keep a more accurate account of our current account, eg keeping a tab on day to day spending, we check our bank account daily online, but would like to ba able to just see the balance at a glance on our pc...
Whats the best software to use for this? Any free downloads available?
Cheers

In this trusted place U can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase

You can organise and keep track of your spending/finances with MS Money. It is designed to do pretty much what you're after, and you can set it up to download your statements straight to the program to make it easier to keep track of things.
You should be able to pick this program up quite cheaply. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Pretty much all online banks offer statement downloads in comma separated value format (.csv). This can be read by basically any spreadsheeting app... so you could just go download OpenOffice free from https://www.openoffice.org and open up your statements. OpenOffice Calc is what you want...
There are free money programs available. However you will need a Unix based operating system to run them (eg. Linux, BSD or OS X). GNU cash is one example (http://www.gnucash.org/), and KMyMoney runs on KDE.0
