Washer / Dryer Problem

The drying cycle no longer works, though the washing part is still ok. It's a Hotpoint. Any ideas for what the problem is likely to be? I'm hoping something has just "tripped" inside the machine and needs re-setting rather than anything serious. It's now out of warrantry, so it's going to cost me.

How long is a piece of string. Do you have drying facilities elsewhere - eg outside as if so you have the summer to save up. Don't call out Merloni - find a washer repair man either by recommendation or the yellow pages. We have seomone who is great and turns his hand to alsorts - he won't charge if he can't fix it. He was recommended and I have since realised that he mends half my friends machines too. Also a new dryer is quite cheap so it maybe that if expensive and you have the room give up the dry part. We have had a washer - drier and it forever went wrong and so did my Grandma - when we inherited it the drier didn't work, so we just used it as a washer. I feel that the more tasks you ask a machine to do the more things go wrong , seems obvious! We had the same thing with our combi boiler.

Unfortunately patchwork, I don't have a lot of space so no room for separate washer and dryer. I would if I could. Anyway, just spoke to the chap who did a repair on a different machine a few years ago and he's coming round to have a look, so fingers crossed.
