Interesting question.
What's your definition of 'best'?
What criteria and standards would you apply to that definition?
How would you measure those?
Anyway, cheapest is BT - £29.99 at the moment.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Best = most reliable/good service - measured by feed back from other posters- oh I should have mentioned that will need internet as well

The one you have been given is at least £80 cheaper than the nearest competitor!0

is that for connection or monthly payment?and does it include internet?
thanksKeep the Faith:cool:0 -
That's connection. Line rental is £10.50/month if you pay by DD and opt for paper-free billing.is that for connection or monthly payment?and does it include internet?
thanks
You only asked about landline but such a line would be suitable for dial-up internet connection.
ADSL broadband would be extra - different ISPs charge different rates for connection and monthly rental.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. thanks - mentioned internet in my second post as forgot previously- first post not very clear - can u get connection with BT and then monthly line rental/internet connection with another provider?Keep the Faith:cool:0

You can do both but, as the discounted £29.99 connection price is only available if you agree to an 18 month contract for landline rental, you'd be liable to pay the extra £95 for the connection (i.e. to pay the full £124.99 charge for connection) if you did so.thanks - mentioned internet in my second post as forgot previously- first post not very clear - can u get connection with BT and then monthly line rental/internet connection with another provider?
With a BT landline, you can opt for any ADSL provider.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. So £29.99 for connection with a line rental contract of 18 months at £10 a month and then shop around for best internet deal?Keep the Faith:cool:0

£10.50/month (if you pay by DD and opt for paper-free billing), yes.So £29.99 for connection with a line rental contract of 18 months at £10 a month and then shop around for best internet deal?
However, customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls via BT every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly.
