Do you view VISA, Mastercard or any credit card as a status symbol?

No way....they're not really that hard to get....
In 5 years time they might collectors items if no-one can be trusted with them!;)For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -

Don't think Credit Cards are a status symbol these days.
But back in the 80s, the Gold or Platinum Credit Card was an essential yuppie "must have" along with a brick style mobile phone and a Porsche 944.
Nowadays Gold\Platinum cards and mobile phones are two a penny, even the Porsche isn't quite the same status symbol either.
Only very specialist cards such as Amex Black or Coutts Gold which effectively tell people you have at least half a million pounds in the bank, attract any sort of interest these days.0 -
Something can only be a status symbol if it gives you status. As has been rightly pointed out - there can be no status gain if the majority have one.
However, my wife is from South America and out there the majority still don't have one and thus they are still status symbols. Whenever I produce mine there's normally a certain amount of fluster because a) they don't get too many credit cards but mainly b) none of them have chip and pin yet - but they all have the readers!
I did spend one 15 minute period behind a counter with the pin device trying to translate the spanish on screen so I could help the sales person who had no idea.

NOAbsolutely not. Visa and Mastercard are simply payment systems. They can be plastered on any old bit of plastic, whether it be a Vanquis card or a Coutts card, so whilst they're prolific brands in the payment card industry, they're just a means to an end.
American Express used to be seen as a status symbol years ago, but they've gone downhill recently when they branched out from the charge card market into credit cards.43580 -
NONot a status symbol in my eyes , but a important way of paying for things these days - if used correctly . Me like others most likely on here , have been through finance issues in the past , and only then do you realise how you miss having the ease of payment options. Dunno about others - but use very wisely now!0
