Late Licensing fine
We traded our landrover in for a mini with the local BMW dealer on 24th Dec 2007, we sent the slips off advising the DVLA that we had traded the car in, now it is May and we have just had a letter saying they did not recevice the documents from us, an we have to pay the £40 FINE.
We were not aware that we had to chase them for a responce it they had not sent out a notification that they had in fact received the docs. Where does it say this that if you do not get a letter back saying they have amended their records it is a 'fineable' issue.
We have always sent documents back on time and in order i dont feel we should have to pay for an error at the DLVA end.
Is this worth fighting ???

Ignroance is not a defence. It sounds as if there was an error on your side as well as at the DVLA, you failed to check that the keeper change had been dealt with or even received.
On the instructions of what to do to notify the DVLA is the statement "On receipt of a notification of keeper disposal, DVLA will issue an acknowledgement letter confirming that the keepr has been discharged liability. If you have not received an acknowledgement letter after 4 weeks please contact DVLA"
It's worth a call to explain you didn't know but the fine should stand. If the car is now on the road, it's possiblyn still registered to you.0
