As the title says, I cut the grass for this 1st time this year a few days ago, and since then both dogs have been scratching quite a bit. I've never noticed this before from grass cutting. They spend loads of time in the garden anyway. They're upto date with flea an worm treatment too.

Any ideas...?!

If it's not grass allergy, which is unlikely if it's not happened before, could they have been bitten by something? Ants nest in the grass, something like that?

They have nothing at all on them. I've checked, double checked and re checked their skin. It's baffled me...

It does sound like fleas and even though they have been treated this obviously doesn't stop them getting bitten by a fresh supply of fleas.

Try wetting a piece of A4 paper and put it underneath one of the dogs, then rub it's belly for a while.

If there is any dried blood in the dog's coat it will fall onto the paper and spread because of the water, making it easier to see.

My dog is allergic to grass and is definately worse after its been cut, I think it must be the sap from it which makes it worse.
It may help to bath them and get anythign that might be on their coats off.

My wee girl ended up with bald patches by the time the vet figured out she suffers from allergies. He asked if the grass had recently been cut which it hadn't so it's been narrowed down to a floor cleaner, people gravy or a new perfume I'd been using. All three have been stopped now and she's getting better.
I hope your's is all healed up an not itchy anymore!

my last dog was allegic to something in grass for the last couple of yrs of her life--no probs at all when she was younger. It was only a problem during the summer, so must have been something pollen/seed related. She was very sore at first and really the best treatment was avoidance.

Our dog had a wheat allergy, and he had to be fed with special gluten free food. Also, when grass pollen was around, and after cutting the grass he would itch and scratch all the time. So it's not always insects. Hayfever tablets help.
