Toshiba Satellite L30-134, I have the 1.46Ghz CPU upgrading to core duo t2350, also memory upgrade and HDD.
Ok I have had a replacement MOBO in the last six months I'm hoping its the latest revision, the L30-134 is now being sold with the t2350 so hopefully with a BIOS update the system should recognize the newer CPU. Memory is sorted DDR2 PC4200 @533Mhz, the thing I realy wanted to know is whether or not there are any variations in the SATA conections in laptops?

variations in SATA and what? SATA transfers data alot faster if thats what ur getting at?0 -
Ok I'll rephrase, is there anything unusual about the way a Toshiba laptop is put together, that I might need to take into consideration. Seeing as Toshiba like to take a novel approach to building things. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0

One question: WHY? I can understand upgrading the HDD if you're low on space but the CPU? Surely with what laptops are used for, it has to be one of the most pointless things to do?0 -
Because I can lol. Also it don't do what I need it to do, I could'nt afford a better laptop at the time. So I got the one with the best GPU, with the intention of upgrading when I had some spare cash, (and after the warranty had run out).
With the new CPU I will be able to browse the web and listen to MP3's at the same time, (ahh bliss)
Also, Why not????
People dont think twice about upgrading a desktop........
I'm also considering a custom case mod, the GPU heatsink sits 6mm from the outside casing with 2mm of case, just enough room for a 40x40x8mm fan, or two.
Lets face it it's hardly extreme when you take into consideration what some people do with desktops and liquid nitrogen.

And I still have a completely portable laptop instead of it being stuck to a cooling pad (sort of defeats the object), without having to overstress the components by overclocking. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
But the people doing that to desktops do gaming or high end CAD/video editing type of work - not something they just use for browsing web, getting emails and listening to a bit of music.
With your old CPU you can browse the web and listen to an MP3. Hell, with a 10 year old PC you can do that.
A faster CPU isn't going to make browsing any quicker or speed up your typing.
How are you proposing powering these fans?
Waste of money TBH. But carry on and go blow the guts out of it. When you stop posting, we can assume you've succeeded in killing it.0 -

I was referring to the fans, dumbass.
But hey, !!!!!! do I know with my BTEC HND Electronics Engineering and 24 years in IT?0 -
No need to be rude.......:D
Ill find somewhere to connect them, either direcly to the 12v input, always on unless I connect a controller pot, I have'nt checked for a fan header on the MOBO yet, I'm not to keen on the idea of piggybacking on the CPU fan.
Unless you could suggest a better way to connect them.To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -

damm i like dangerous wiring jobs  go for the back of the usb ports to cable the fans lol, probably need to lose one but just get a mini hubclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
Only trouble with that is its only 5v, I have been toying with making an exhaust fan for the side of the laptop using two 38x38x38mm block fans with a USB plug built in. This can be removed for transport also.To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0
