    CPU is over heating.

Clean the fan and the heatsink before it breaks all together.

Ok latest update, the pc would start up if I left it for a few hours so probably was something heating up too much, however it wouldn't really boot up fully before shutting down or freezing.

Is there anyway that I can transfer stuff from my old hard drive to the new one, Iam thinking along the lines of plugging it into the new pc and transferring the contents onto the new one. Also the old pc had Windows Media Centre Xp pro installed and a digi tv card but the new one only has Xp home and no tv card is it possible to set the new one up the same, I do not have the Media Centre disc as it was pre-installed? Hope this makes sense and look forward to your suggestions.

The simplest way to do what you want is buy a USB enclosure for the old hard drive and plug that into the new PC to retrieve the data it could then be used as a backup device. They usually cost £5-ish which type depends on the drive size (physical not space in GB) and also dependant on if your existing hard disk is SATA or IDE.

The added bonus here is you dont invalidate a warranty of the new PC, you will also have mobile storage for documents, photo's etc and you gain a backup device.

SATA drive and cables look like this

IDE drive and cables look like this

PC hard disks are 3.5 inch disks laptop are 2.5 inch.

Thats brilliant Tom, mine has the sata type of connections as per the top pic. Where can I get the enclosure, Maplins have one but around £20, or £15 at Novatech which are just up the road. Also how do you measure it? Mine is 4 x 5.5 inches but the ones I can see seem to be 2.5, 3.5 or 5.25. Mine is a Maxtor 3.5 series, does that mean a 3.5 enclosure? Many thanks.
