cream gloss kitchen

After having settled on cream shaker, my kitchen designer suggested that cream gloss may look better with my particular design.
I am now tempted by cream gloss, but will it date more quickly?

Any thoughts?

I personally don't think so, and it won't go a yellow colour like white will do with the cooking odours etc. I have a radiator cabient in my hall painted Vanilla Ice (cream to you and me) and its a lovely colour, I wanted the whole hall done in it, but Mr Merlot says it doesn't need re-painting yet, and he is quite right, I will put cream gloss on it when it does get done in a couple of years time, the cabient has been this colour for 6 years and still looks "in date" if that matters to you. Personally I would forget about the date thing, people nowadays are obessed with image and being in date, I absolutely hate NEXT/John Lewis etc for having homewares seasonal:eek: No wonder people are in debt. (Mini rant - not on topic)

There is a lot of cream gloss around and it's a good seller. I had it in a flat I owned 21 years ago and here I am about to install it again ! I bought it from Wickes, much cheaper- same quality as John Lewis. ( It was in the sale though )

I've had my cream gloss kitchen for 5 years now and I love it, it is so easy to clean and still looks like new.

The property !!!!!! programmes tell us that reflective surfaces are good for brightening up a small or dark area to make them look better.

Personally, I love white because I don't have a single style gene in me. So I'd rather go with white than make a mistake.

Can you see both installed anywhere? Ideal would be in a showroom side by side, but that's wishful thinking I guess. Or is it worth splashing out on a door in each and propping them up in the kitchen for a week to think about....

It was Magnolia in my day!! No I do realise that there are a million different shades.
  • I've just fitted a cream gloss kitchen with black floor tiles and oak worktop, and am a bit stuck on how to give it a bit of personality. I'm thinking of having a mulberry/deep plum feature wall with matching blind and black glass splashback between the top and bottom units. the rest of the walls will be cream to match the units. What do you think? Or should i stick to neutral walls and have a coloured splashback instead (it's being made to measure so i can choose any colour)

Cream gloss looks nice. Remember however that whatever kitchen you put in will date within 5 years or so. This isn't true of a traditional style kitchen. The major suppliers (MFI, Howdens, B & Q etc) are constantly updating their ranges. Some are available for less than 24 months. So just be prepared to accept that the minbute you put it in. it will start to date.

    Hiya,

We're going to have cream gloss two, and I think it looks best when it has something nice and dark to contrast against.

We're probably going to go for a dark, almost purpley wood effect worktop - its Axiom Mocha Oak - which looks really smart next to the cream and really brings the colour out.

I think you have to go with what you like ultimately - everything dates and most people want to change their kitchen when they move anyway. Just stay away from the lime greens I think!

I've just been deliberating between cream painted shaker style or the latte high gloss style and I was worried about dating too.....
I've had one quote, for the painted, and he was adament that gloss would date.I'm waiting for another quote from a guy who was adamant that gloss would open up my dark and small kitchen.
I'm really stuck in the middle, although I guiess the final price for the gloss may be a deciding factor.
MFI are coming Sat to measure up, but I've not read great reports on here about them.....

  • I have b and q's cheapie white gloss kitchen-it's been installed 9 years and is still white and they still sell a similar model (just modelling on doors has changed)

    I love it-only takes a wipe and it's clean.

I am keeping the cupboards and doors and just having new work tops tiles and paint-I'm going for balck and white-I'm done with colour for the time being-just going to have colour accents from now on.
