Laptop fault

Hi everyone,

I hope you can help me to sort out this problem
Last year, on the 20th of April I bought an laptop where unfortunately the laptop now it doesn't charge anymore. I left the laptop to recharge beside me and after a while I smelt burned and I looked towards to my laptop where I saw smoke coming out from the laptop, to be exactly from the plug. I couldn't believe it. I took off the socket from the electricity, then I remove the wires from the laptop and the plug was very hot.
This morning I went to a computer repair to check which problem was and the guy has found out that the charger was ok, so the fault it's inside the laptop and the plug where you can put the charger, it melt.
I spoke with the manufacturer and they don't want to understand that even is out the warranty we are talking about safety hazard issue. They don't care and they said that I have to pay all full amount. I was gutted and I said that the problem is from the manufacture and they should check it and repair it and I was lucky to be there because if I wasn't there something more worse could happened.
Any help? What should I do?

Thanks in advance
Enay

If you are from the uk, send the retailer a letter claiming your rights under the sale of goods act.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Quite new to this site so not 100% on the rules of the forum, but would be good to write a letter explaining that you have this issue on a forum that has 10,000 active daily users (not sure if that figure is correct), explain your problem with the laptop, and im sure that the manufacture wouldnt risk their reputation of the money saving expert forum lol

thats one way to go about it anyway...

just write anything, and read up on the sale of goods act, make them understand that you know your rights.

as you can see don't use that letter verbatim, read the gray bit at bottom.
u have lost right to reject the goods, and after 6 months the onus is on you to prove the fault was down to a manufacturing issue, so take care

    Hello

A couple of hours ago I tried to contact Comet explaining them that i found out that I can claim this under the sale of goods act and the man on the phone was talking about something 6yrs. I didn't understand and I explained to him that I couldn't believe it even him didn't mention this in fisrt place. As usual I explain the situation like I don't know about this act as usual everyone says the same that I am not covered anymore under warranty. Then when you say that you know something they try again to play up.
He also said that I should pay first and then claim back.....
I told him that I will send a letter right now and he said I shouldn't do it and ask advice first to trading standard.
to be honest I don't know what can I do but in any case I sent now the letter because I felt insulted again and you know there is always something that every customare service on the phone try to keep hide people right's. They try to make you believe what they want.
