Brother MFC 3420 printer

We have had what seems to be two common problems with this printer. Firstly, error 41, a printer head problem. We have had to have this fixed twice by the Brother engineers, while the printer was under guarantee (1 year). Now, the magenta ink isn't printing (no, it hasn't run out!) and Brother are saying it's our problem as the printer is now beyond its guarantee.

However, having done some research online, it seems this problem with the magenta ink is a very common follow on to the printer head thing with this particular model (according to fixyourownprinter.com). So it would seem that there is a design fault that needs fixing.

Does anyone have the same problem and/or know of a solution (other than paying to get it fixed - which costs more than a new printer - or buying a new printer)? Fixyourownprinter.com, as yet, have been unable to find a solution.

As you're all so lovely and helpful here I thought I 'd give you a try. :D

Cheers,

Mrs T
