£50PM Dual Fuel on E7?

Hi,
I recently moved into a new house, which has an E7 meter (with a mechanical timeswitch) fitted. I believe it's currently supplier by E.ON.
I filled in an online form for Scottish Power, who have come back saying they would charge £50 per month for both gas and electricity by DD. Looking at the booklet they've sent me, the charges aren't very clear. It says that in the Yorkshire supply area the charges are;
3.820p for the first 1143kWh per quarter
2.797p for the remainder
There is no mention of the night time rate, so I'm not sure whether these apply to E7.
Having carried out a number of online searches, E.ON appear to come out on top in this area so I may just forget about SP and stay where I am.
Having said all of this, I'd like to have the E7 meter removed and exchanged for a standard meter...however spent 35 mins on hold to E.ON the other evening!!
WHat are your thoughts, does the SP deal sound any good or am I not getting the whole picture from them?

They are the gas rates!
Electric will be roughly 5p off peak, 25p for first x units peak (on a NSC tarrif) and 12p for remaining peak units (they are very rough prices - i.e. for illustration!)
If you don't use electric for heating (night storage type) and water, you will almost certainly be better off on a standard tarrif - further it will almost certainly be cheaper to heat the house / water by gas if that is an option.
Finally, NEVER (EVER EVER) compare prices on DD ammount before comparing on unit prices per KWhI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:

Thanks, having read your message and looked back at the enclosed leaflet, I had missed a page!!!
The electricity rates are;
15.286p for first 225kWh per quarter (DAY)
9.503p for the remainder
4.2629 (NIGHT)
All of these prices include VAT.
How does that look, now we have the full picture?0 -
They sound pretty good but that is in comparrison to Norweb area - I don't know off-hand what yorkshire prices are like

Thanks again.
I've just tried an E.ON quote on their own website, and their charges for E7 seem to be slightly higher with a standing charge, or quite a bit higher without one, so I think I'll go with Scottish Power. All being well, I should only have to pay one bill to E.ON before the transfer is all sorted.0 -
if you use more than the first "x" units per year on any NSC tarrif you will pay the same as you would have on a traditional standing charge tarrif, simply because the standing charge payable over the 365 days is simply split over the "x" units
i.e. I bet (from the figues you gave above) the standing charge for the electricity (if you were on the standing charge tarrif and not the NSC one) wold be about 14.26p per day...
((15.286-9.503p) * 900 units)/365I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:
