Interest on £10,0000

Hi,

Would anybody be able to tell me the interest £10,000 would have accrued in a reasonable savings account over the last 10 years?

  • 10000 @ 3% for 10 years = £13,439.17
    10000 @ 5% for 10 years = £16,288.95

For reference and only because I decided to take a peek myself to compare and as I had the information, I may as well post it. A unit trust in UK FTSE Tracker would have been £18,213, £19,757 for UK equity income sector average and £18,099 for UK all companies sector (all after charges at full cost).

Here are NatWest base rates for the last ten years (date shown is date of change). This should be the same as the BoE base rate I think - it certainly is for recent months. I assume a "decent savings account" would have offered something on a par with this....
