Passing on Wimbledon Tickets??

I have a question about Wimbledon tennis tickets. I have 2 Wimbeldon tickets for this year that I obtained through the official draw. However I cannot go but would like to pass these on to a good friend. Does anyone know if there is any kind of an ID check at the gates? I don't want to sell them on but would simply like to give them away as a present.

Contact the AELTC (phone or email) to find out the exactly where you stand on this one! They should be able to provide you with the correct information0

They have told me that under no circumstances can the tickets be sold on. However I just wonder if there is an id check at the gates. I doubt it but I don't want to cause my friend embarrasment.0

What sort of tickets? And what sort of price? If you want to sell them you can PM me. Thanks!0 -
Have you checked the small print to see if you can not return them? I have a feeling that they will probably charge you an"admin fee" and then sell them to somebody who failed to get any in the ballot, but I'm not sure.Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. - Proust0

There was no check (apart from bag security check) when we went BUT they have said they will be doing so due to resales of non transferrable tickets - quite right too. It is terribly difficult to get tickets in the ballot and the ballot continues up to Wimbledon week so if you send them back, someone who wants them will be allocated them.0

Last year my nephew had two tickets through his tennis club (first day centre court!), he couldn't go because of his exams so his dad passed them on to Mrs and me. This is not technically allowed (to discourage black market resales) as only debenture tickets can be resold. However, in reality there were no identity checks and I suspect there won't be this year either...it's bad enough getting everybody into Wimbledon on time as it is and ID checks would slow the process down further leading to crowd disgruntlement or later starts and more waiting for fans.
This year we got a couple of tickets in the ballot. If we couldn't go I wouldn't resell them for profit but I would certainly pass them on to family or friends who did not manage to gert tickets and wanted to go.
I think it is very good of Wimbledon (AETC) to hold back tickets for the show courts which they could sell at higher prices many times over and to distribute them through the ballot to give Joe and Joanna Public a chance to see one of the world's greatest sporting events at a reasonably affordable price. That "good will" is undermined by the touts and profiteers selling tickets on at inflated prices and I would do nothing to encourage that since it reduces access to the genuine sporting public.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0 -

Give them to friends who genuinely would love to go and would be happy to give you the money at face value.
This is not an issue at Wimbledon, I know a lot of people whoose entire family will send off ballot applications, and they share their successful haul between them dependent on which family members can go on what days. Using tickets belonging to friends or family members is not an issue at Wimbledon (as long as they havn't profited), but selling on for the purpose of profit is what they are cracking down on.
Kooger21, i'm sure you could make someone you love very happy with those tickets - but don't tout them!0
