    Amazing isn't it? To have that perspective in his situation. And what a teacher!

    Mizmir - I saw your sig on hypno's diary, and had to come over here to tell you, I think its amazing. Its so true - we can do anything, but we have to want it. It changes us, and for the better, cos I'm not just talking about debt, and I'm sure he wasn't either. My beloved American cousin has been telling me about Randy Pausch too, so altho I have to leave the house soon for the day, I'll be doing a fair old bit of reading about him over the weekend.

    Thanks for reminding me that we can make it possible to live the lives we want.

    Morning - new month - new regime! Now have an electronic spending diary so everything is to go in there as it happens.... (via mobile) - am determined to know where the money goes. Am doing the £10 a day and NSD day challenge - so with a following wind will make more and spend less! Plans for the £10 a day:
    • Matched betting and loopholes - £130
    • Dog training - £130
    • Extra stuff at work - £50
    Not even going to attempt ebay - it has been pitiful for me - the only things that have sold well have been the large pick up only things and they have now gone.
    So unless I can find more of them then I won't bother - will save it up for a car boot but doubt I'll get to one in August. But football season starts again and I am planning some dog training sessions so should be doable with this and then any extra stuff will take me over my challenge target!

    List for today - am going to work and then away so plan is just getting myself ready - and making sure I don't over spend while away. Will be back on Sunday.

    No - he wasn't in debt - he was talking about getting into the college programme he wanted. But it does hold true for most things doesn't it? Things seem insurmountable but only if you let them be. Often we think if we can't achieve something quickly then that is the same as not being able to achieve it at all - we don't have the patience to get over those brick walls. But if we want something badly enough we will find a way to get it eventually.

    Happy August everyone :beer:

    My personal line of attack this month is to try and limit my spending to 400.00.
    I tried 310.00 in July but this was impossible and mildly soul destroying!
    So here goes...:j:rotfl::j:rotfl::j:rotfl::j:rotfl::j

    As an exercise to see what my actual debt figure is, I've done a spreadsheet and input all the balances on all my accounts and totalled them. Now I can see exactly when in the month is my lowest point and by how much. Obviously it is just before I get paid (19th). I'm going to do this monthly and so I'll be able to see if, month on month, I am getting anywhere. Crude but effective. Not including mortgage, my debt low point in July was 805.30. I appreciate that this is negligible compared to some of your debts but it's still the wrong side of ZERO!:eek:

    Also, this month, I get hammered for tax thanks to an updated tax code,:eek::eek::eek: and my lodger has given me notice that he's moving out on 31st August,:mad: so only one more rent payment to come from him.

    The 400.00 challenge is even more important now.

    Off to find some junk to put on Ebay!!

    Bonne journee tout le monde!
