Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Well I have decided I don't want the job - Seaxwyn is right - I have enough stress in my life and this isn't where I want to be. I was flattered at the suggestion - and even more that some other colleagues encouraged me - but it is not where I want to go. This would involve 9-12 hour days and I want to be spending more not less time at home!! Also - it is not a job you could just turn down if offered - at least not if you wanted to continue to have any future in the organisation! They'll be investing heavily in the recruitment process and would not take kindly to me going all that way to turn it down. Different I think if I was external - but internal would be very awkward to do that.

But what it has brought up is that there are things I'd like to do that I am not doing in my current role - so I need to look at how to move that forward. I am writing two lists at the moment: all the things I consider priorities in my life - things I want to do more of - and all the things I want to avoid/get rid of/reduce in my life. Hopefully that'll help me see more clearly where I should be going and what I should be trying to do - no guarantees I will be able to do it of course but at least would help to have clear goals - then I can at least plan how to achieve them!

Feeling more positive now - pretty much a new month (July was hopeless from MSE perspective) and will start new plans.

you spotted that then.... :o:D - you are absolutely right of course. If not as a full time thing - at least the time and space to do it part time - and the other job would've meant I would have had to give it up altogether I suspect....

Mid life crisis or something maybe?! Or maybe it is just a realisation that we only have one life and it is not always as long as we imagine it will be..... as someone said the other day to me - noone ever regretted on their death bed not spending more time working! I am feeling unfit, over-stressed and like I am letting my life go by rather than taking control of it - and I want to change all of that. More time on the things that are important, more emphasis on health (physical and mental). I think part of my problem is I am always looking on to the next thing - rather than enjoying the present - and that goes for work too. Actually there are a lot of things about what I am doing that I really like - and I am lucky at the moment that I have a lot of autonomy. The "downside" is that I am not positioning myself particularly for future promotions etc - but do I want or need that - or do I actually want to focus enjoying things now and on getting the package of what I do right for me - including more time on the dog things - regardless of whether it is a step "up" or not. Put like that it is not a difficult choice! :)

Oi, no mention of mid life crises on this board please!!! I for one am FAR too young to have one of those - don't intend doing so for at least another 10 years.........

Thanks El. Definitely just need to take stock occasionally and make sure things are going in the right direction. I have my lists now - and am going to put together plans to get me going in the right direction. Nothing too ambitious as one of the things I also tend to do is go overboard on things and then give up in a couple of weeks! :o So a reasonable and doable plan for each thing that I have: finance, getting fit, spending more time at home, developing part-time business, improving things at work, getting house sorted etc.
