Moving BT telephone socket

When we moved into our house 3 months ago we discovered that the main BT telephone socket into the house lives on our window sill. The line comes from the top of the house down to this box and then another wire comes out of the box and goes up the outside front into the bedroom into a socket upstairs. We are getting a new window fitted downstairs shortly and wondered if the box could be moved from the window sill. Would we have to have BT out to do it, could we do it ourselves or maybe get an external company to do the work?

any ideas would be appreciated!

Seeing as its a BT line then only BT are contracted to work on those lines. Remember that you'll be liable for call out charges plus labour costs :)

Get BT Openreach to do it as they own it not you.

But it will cost as much as the window.

It may be cheaper to have a new line installed £125 but you would have out work that out as you may also be in a years contract now if the line is working.

They wont deal with general members of the public, they would have to go through their own telephony provider.

Yeah I knew that, but whoever orders it Openreach will do the work.

Just out of curiosity, where does the cable actually come into the house? Through the window still?

All you get is a quote for the call out charge & then the price they charge for the labour (per hour). So i guess from there it all depends on how tricky the job is to move the box/line.
