Australia visa refusal

Options
I may be visiting Australia at the end of the year but have a conviction for drink driving (of which I am very ashamed) and am wondering if it will affect the visa application?

Maybe a silly question but I know of someone who got the visa passed online, then actually got to Australia and was basically turned around and sent home as he had a criminal record (albeit worse than a driving offence)

ive tried looking on the embassy website but am struggling to find anything?

maybe a phone call will answer your question.. surely there is a phone number on the website that you can call to ask?
  • best way to get any answers to any visa questions is to ring that countries embassy in this country.

They can't tell if you will or won't get a visa. They can give rough guidelines.

Apply the paper way give yourself plenty of time as it does take a few weeks.

I know of someone who had criminal conviction from many years ago and it involved suspended prison sentence. It was a tad more serious than drink driving and they got a visa.

So unless they have clamped down a lot over the last few years I suspect you would get it.

Also don't forget that there is more to visa than just criminal convictions. You need to prove that can support yourself while out that. Also if you have family out there I have feeling that counts in your favour as well.

    All the best.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.

which is all we can do, without knowing anything about the processes in place.
A rough guideline could include an outright no, which is worst case scenario, but a quick phone call will hopefully, bring out a "maybe", or, "there shouldn't be an issue", which IMO, is more than we can do on this forum...

    I thanked not quoted.

What did I say they can't tell if you will or won't get a visa. They will tell you to apply manually as they take more than criminal convictions in to account. Can you support yourself while out there any family connections etc. This happened to the person I know. They where told to apply manually as the people on the phone could not tell you.

But seeing as I have been through the visa process myself as well as knowing someone with a criminal conviction go through the application process with something more serious than a drink drive conviction. Of course that would count for squat. And means that my opinion is worthless

It was a couple of years ago so unless they have tightened up over the last few years. Apply manually and see what happens.
