Yeh, I'm going to order it after midnight, if I order it now it only holds it for today and tomorrow.

Oh, and thx for the link to HDUK, I've bookmarked it.

Just a note for dyed in the wool moneysavers; why shred anything?

for letters and bills its necessary to rip out your address, name and account details only. If it cant be tied to your name it cant be used for ID fraud. Then rip up the remaining document which has had names etc ripped out.

the little scraps of name, address, account, etc can be ripped in two and flushed down the loo.

The ripped up remainder can be binned reasonably securely.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

Just read the Which? magazine article on paper shredders and going to get their 4th Best Buy - the Fellowes Crosscut P35C - for £22+ from Argos.

However Which? recommends lubricating the shredder every month. I have found Fellowes Crosscut Shredding Oil for £4.50 on Amazon but the the p+p is a further £4.20. This is the cheapest I've come across.

Does anyone know please, would any sort of oil do or am I best off with this brand? Thanks.
  • I have just spoken to Fellowes enquring about the same thing and they said you can use vegetable oil and please note that you must NEVER use WD40 at all. Cheaper product and does the job. Obviously still be careful when using. Suggest reading the shredder warehouse advice about oiling shredders.
  • I've just been trying to securely dispose of 15 years of paperwork. I put everything non-confidential in the recycling bin, and bought a decent shredder to get rid of the rest. Or so I thought. The shredder overheated after every 50 sheets or so and then finally died after one box. Leaving two unshredded boxes of bumpf.

So I'm going to do what I should have done in the first place, which is burn the lot (in a brazier for safety). It is a bit old style, but it does work and is a lot quicker.

A supplementary suggestion to that. My local school collects paper monthly for re-cycling, and they have a skip at the school between collections. They make several thou a year from it - for school funds etc. When I have a decent enough stack, I take it round. With the suggestions from cwp500, when it's all mixed up with other paper two miles away, you can't get anything more secure - and cheaper - than that!
The local council also collects in their re-cycling programme, but I prefer to benefit the school!
*Keep a bucket of water with some washing powder mixed in it in the garage or outside somewhere. Put the bits of paper pushed down into it, mix it up periodically, squeeze it out when it's getting full (or starting to stink) and dispose of in household waste. Saves the risk of blocking the loo!
