Social Work masters

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting through a Social Work masters? The course is 2 years full time and unpaid.Fees are paid but now looking for ways to make money to live on in limited time.
Any ideas?!

I've just finished a social work masters. There was a bursary available when I was doing it as well as fees being paid. It is full time, but generally the placements offered were Monday-Friday 9-5 so there is scope to work evenings/weekends to help make ends meet. I worked 20 hours a week (weekends) and was comfortable on that and the bursary.

Other than that, I'd advise not buying too many books (things change very quickly), making use of the journals available on Athens and making good use of your library. It's an intensive course but a fantastic one, and a frustrating but rewarding career at the end of it.

Spooky I was going to post the same sort of question!

I'm looking at doing this next year, but unfortunately it's not done at my local uni so would have to do it at one and hour away.

So either I commute or move there, both are rather expensive options sadly.

An hr is really not that far away! I would go for it.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
  • Thanks for your advice. I'm doing a post-grad course that's funded but my partner starts his social work masters in Sept so we're looking for ways of making ends meet. It sounds like a part-time post might work best.
Good luck starting your social work career sockopsice, and flutterbyuk25 - you should definitely go for it!
