  • It's not purely a man thing, as I'm of the male persuasion and am a fairly canny shopper. I've seen just as many women suffering from what I'd call the 'Sheba* Syndrome' - ie buying overpriced rubbish for the illusion of a 'quality lifestyle' it gives them.

Perhaps one way to convince your hubbies is to engender a distrust of supermarkets. Men love conspiracy theories. Isn't there a book which tells all the psychological tricks supermarkets use to rip us off? He could read this then pretend he's on a special covert mission or something.

  • Have gone into next months budget. OH said we needed stuff a few bits. I said I only have a tenner (not allotted for groceries) he said I will get it and you pay me back. I said no and to take the £10.00 and warned him that it was from next months budget. I said can you get potatoes please. He got everything he wanted and no potatoes and spent nearly the whole amount. I have told him I am not doing dinner tonight and hes sulking.

  • Wow, if he keeps that up, he'll be eating beans on toast every night next month! Maybe you could get him hooked on MSE. If it doesn't teach him money saving, he might spend enough time on here that it'll cut back on his spending time! x

You could always do him the meal you were going to make and serve it without the potatoes. Maybe he'll get the message?
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • Well I can always save you a tenner and send you off to Brewsters for tea instead! Go to their homepage for the coupons.

Hy hubby never gets much of a chance to go food shopping as I do it all online! The only things he can get are bread and milk and fresh veg from the market.

Oh, and ice-cream for me at 11pm when I feel like it.... I'm a lucky woman! :D

As MATH says, it's not a man thing, it's a non-MSE thing. My wife is a great one for wondering round the supermarket blithely grabbing anything that grabs her eye. She's also a total sucker for expensive branded 'diet' products etc., and won't buy the argument that you're paying more money for less nutrition. Hopefully by going round the supermarket with her and supervising I'll be able to drum it into her, though it's a huge and ongoing struggle- she's very set in her ways:rolleyes:
