Car Repair Advice? Is there a forum?

As it says in the title really!

My car wont start, the starter motor turns once rather begrudgingly then that's it. Flat battery? Yes I thought so too but when I check it it's fully charged!

Can anyone suggest:
a) a forum to get suitable advice or
b) what the flipping heck is wrong?

Thanks all :)

How have you checked the battery charge? Try getting a mate's motor and a set of jump leads....I've had problems in the past, where the battery appeared to be ok, the lights worked ok and everything, but it just didn't have enough juice to turn the engine over.
Are you in the AA or anything? If so, call 'em out to have a look. If you don't have homestart, bump start it and drive a mile down the road first. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    1. The Battery

Your battery consists of 6 x 2V cells. One of the cells could be breaking down under high load situations, ie running the starter motor.

    Remedies:

    * Borrow a friend's car and swap the batteries over. Do you transfer the fault to the other car?

    * Get the battery checked with a "load-set", which is basically a resistor and two prongs (with a meter attached which shows red/green) that is applied to the battery to "stress it". Will need a garage or auto-electrician for this.

    2. The Wiring

Could be a "high resistance" joint on the heavy duty RED wiring between the battery/starter solenoid/starter motor, or a poor earth to the engine block/starter solenoid/starter motor. Look for signs of overheated or loose connections, white "furry" deposits, or green verdegris.

    Remedy

    * Investigate & rectify by re-making off the crimped terminals

    3. The Alternator

Could be a fault in the charging circuit from the alternator.

    Remedy

    * Have the performance of the charging system checked out by an auto electrician.

Starting Motor sounds stuck as it wont turn over give it a tap
with a hammer, then try and start it.

Also it can be taken out and clean the big screw with turps dry it off
and replace, make sure its dry when replacing as any oil on the screw
thread will pick up dust from the clutch and clog it up again.
