Parking in Norwich

I'm off to Norwich on Saturday and need to park for most of the day and well into the evening. I've never been there before, so any advice on where to park, how much it will cost, and where NOT to park, would be greatly appreciated.

Park at the retail outlets and morrissons car parks, should be free not sure of any time limits etc, but you will find this on Carrow Road next to the Norwich City football stadium.

sorry reading later posters this seems like poor advice once again sorry

Don't park at Morrisons or the Riverside Retail Park!!

Two hours maximum and they will clamp you if you are over the time limit.

Long stay parking isn't cheap in Norwich especially as you are staying into the evening too. Probably the best most convenient place is St Andrews Car Park - all day ( and evening) for £5(I think). Other car parks will be much more! Or a much longer walk - or much riskier at night.........

I want to have a look around the cathedral in the day and then at the Royal theatre in the evening.

Can anybody recommend a decent place to stop for a picnic in the centre? Is there a park or a green somewhere?

From memory Norwich had one of the best Park and Ride's I've ever used.

It was a few years ago though so my memory of where it was is vague!

I was going to reccomend park and ride but they close before the theatre shuts.

St andrews (on duke street) multi story may be your best bet it is safe and well lit. £5 per day up to 1830 and £1.60 all evening so that would be £6.60 for the time you want. Less than 10 minute walk back to it after the show

There are cheaper open air car parks but they are not so safe and well lit for returning to after the theatre.

Chapelfield gardens is prob your best bet for the picnic it is in the centre next to the new chapelfield shopping centre.

Chapelfield is pricey during the day but one standard rate after 6 as is the Forum which are very near to Theatre Royal.

You could use P&R during the day then move the car into either the Forum or Chapelfield carpark?

No one mentioned parking in chapelfield during the day, I was going to suggest p and r and then moving but that would only save £1.20 over staying in one place (st andrews) all day.

If you're not interested in the shopping , there are some nice picnic spots down by the river, if you carry on down through the cathedral grounds. Follow the river path to the left to a place called Cow Tower - a nice grassy spot for a picnic!
