We want you to pay £354 on an item covered with insurance

I bought a Miele a few years ago.
It was expensive at £700 but it came with a 10 year warranty.
If you are a heavy use and get through machines quite quickly then you might find it more cost effective to buy something more expensive like a Miele.
It would be more expensive up front but if it lasts 20 years then it would pay off.
Also you might want to consider a credit card with extra warranty.
I think Nationwide offer this but you'd need to check.0 -
Thank you for your replies.
I have cover with my bank when I buy a new product using my bank card, will be going that way in future.
I just got of the phone to them again, I was to late for the department I needed to speak to.
The machine they have given me the quote of my share £354.35 is a hoover VHD8142 also happens to be the dearest hoover washing machine on comet website at £399.99 so my expensive £102.88 policy is actualy worth £45.64.
The machine I have at the moment is a hoover excel 1100 cannot remember the exact price but it would not have been the dearest product.
I am going to call them tomorrow0 -
Update
I have again spoken to Domestic & General, I am going to get wait for it £52 in comet vouchers.
It is a monthly policy renewable each year in December so have only paid 4 premiums this year so far, they take the other 8 out of the settlement leaving £52.
I have cancelled 4 identical policies already with them and managed to stop a dd that was due Monday for 1 of these.
I have been given an address to write to which I shall be doing, if anyone has any hints on what to put please help.
3 of the cancelled polices I have never claimed on.
Can I ask a question I have a Barclay's additions account which does cover white goods when using debit card does any one know if the same applies to their credit card?0 -
Very good thread this ......and also a warning to people that these polocies are a right rip off.
Look at the product that you are thinking of buying carefully....as the OP says many machines etc have good warranties included i.e. Dyson offer a 5 year parts and labour warranty / Kia cars have a 7 year parts and labour warranty etc etc0 -
Insurance isn't always a good idea!
Always look at the likelihood of something going wrong, the impact on your life and the cost of resolving it. (This is what the insurance company does to predict its profits from you!)
Then look at the cost of the insurance. If it doesn't seem worthwhile compared to the risk, you don't need it! As many have suggested, putting the equivalent premium amount into a savings account can balance any risk, but won't cost you a penny if nothing goes wrong. It's a gamble, but then everything in life is.
OP, I can see you've had to learn this the hard way - I feel really sorry for you and anyone else who's been sold a scandellous unnecessary or unhelpful insurance productBut hopefully this can serve as a warning to others.
