Printing

I have a number of pdf documents that I would like to have printed and bound but was wondering if anyone had any experience of and low cost options for this process..?

Thanks

  • Are you at University?? If so do they have a copy /print department that may be able to do it at a subsidised rate? Thats what I would try anyway. Or you could just try saving the pages /files onto a memory stick or cd and then printing them up at Uni thus using their ink and paper rather than yours! ;)
  • Well my uni has a pretty high printing charge (5p per page!). My girlfriends does it for 2p per page with £15 free per year. Both do free binding but you must supply your own binding combs. If your going for perfect bound documents (like most books) they do charge.

If its for a thesis or dissertation you might want to look at Lulu.com - takes a while to come through but it's pretty inexpensive for perfect bound documents.

If you're printing lots, you might want to look into a £40 laser printer. My HP Laserjet 5L (expensive in it's day) has lasted over a year and a half of heavy printing for uni stuff and its toner has held out well. The modern equivalent of that one costs about £50. If you compare it to the costs at most print shops (or the fact that it's the equivalent of 1000 pages printed at my uni) it's not too bad!

But yeah - if you're going for ring bound documents, don't buy the Rexel binding combs from WH Smith, buy loose ones from your local stationary shop for a fraction of the cost.
