HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATIONAL LOTTERY

I just like to wish a very happy birthday to the National
Lottery and thank him for teaching me a lesson in futility.
Over the last 10years I have spent at least £6 per week (£2 on the syndnicate , £2 on scratchcards and
£2 on my own)
That means that I have spent approximately(give or take) : £3000.
From memory I have won :
3 x 4 numbers giving me £150
10 x 3 numbers giving me £100
scratch cards: £100
Therefore I have made a £2.5k loss
The above figures are very conservative as I tended to spend more on rollovers.
Puts it all into perspective doesnt it??
???
£2.5k is the cost of a really good holiday

It's a good point obeywan.
I don't normaly buy a ticket, I''ve perhaps bought 20 since it started but I still haven't been able to spend £2,500 on a hol.
Thing is, if you don't spend it on Lottery Tickets you'll still find something else to spend it on.
Are you now going to start putting your £1 coins in a jar instead?Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
the jar is a good idea...at least you'll see something for not buying the tickets.
i kind of see the whole thing as an extra 'tax' that i choose not to pay. of course, my chances of winning the jackpot are slightly less than those taking part ;D ;D
i used to play, with regular numbers, but they were randomly chosen in the first place, and i didn't memorise them, so it was easy to stop playing without constantly checking to see how much i would have won.

If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me0 -
I have won only about £50 in total since it started, but I will continue to play.......despite the fact I know the odds are v.v.v.v.v.vv poor cos you never know ! ;D0

Some people describe it as Taxation on your dreams.
Other call it a Stupid Tax.0 -
We used to do £2 each twice a week 'til I thought it was a bit stupid as we weren't winning more that the occasional £10. Now we do £1 each a week and put the other £s in a tin until we've saved up £100 when I buy a Premium Bond. Still haven't won anything though
. At least we can get that money back at some time!

Havent done the lottery for years, but used to do a Bonus Ball.
Basically you just need 48 friends / work colleagues to put £1 a week in - pick your bonus number (from a hat or whatever) and that's your number forever.
Whoever's number comes out as the bonus ball wins the cash.
My husband also does this at work, although there are only a few of them left doing it now, but if you can't get 48 people interested it's still worth doing as usually you get a nice "rollover" pot - I think husband's work is currenly at about £200!!0 -

I sort of disagree with this statement.
The reason being is that one day I decided to bring sandwiches into work instead of buying from local shops.
I noticed that at the end of every month(following my usual budget) I had £100 extra which I put into my ISA.
The problem I find is that allure that I will be financially secure for the rest of my life keeps you buying those tickets!!!0 -

I nearly wet myself when I got a 'happy birthday' letter from NL. I opened it and saw a ticket in there.
I ripped it open with great gusto to find the cheeky sods had put in a lottery slip!!!
I thought maybe they were dishing out free tickets!
Miserly buggars!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0
