Acronis 11 Problem

Options
I have downloaded Acronis 11 in order to back up my system to dvd. Firstly I couldn't get it to work as the dvd drive just kept opening and spitting out my dvd-r, but then I was told on another thread I posted that windows does not support dvd burning on its own so I might need to download a support pack from microsoft containing dvdburn.exe. I did this and initially it seemed to be working.

However, after nearly 15 minutes the following errors came up:-

Error code 4 (0x70004)
Failed to write data to the archive file.
A possible reason might be poor media quality.:None

Error code 502 (0x101F6)
Operation with partition “C.” was terminated.
Details:
Write error (0x70004)
Tag = 0x9D2DE1F088CBC4D4
Error writing the file. (0x40003)
Tag = 0x15602567D340AB0E

I don't think the media quality would be classed as particularly poor as it is a brand new verbatim dvd-r. I have emailed Acronis technical support, but as I still haven't received a reply from them from 2 days ago when I asked them about my dvd drive just opening and spitting the disc out I am not hopeful of a quick reply.

I would therefore be very grateful if anyone understands these error codes and can explain to me where I am going wrong.

Many thanks

    Strange. Do you have any other major processes running in the background? Maybe worth switching off your anti virus (and disconnect from t'internet) and then running backup again.

    It could have just been a bad disk or brand of disks that your DVD-R doesnt like.

    It could be your DVD-R doesnt like working with acronis.

    Also when you make backups with Acronis you shouldnt be making full backups you should be looking to make backups of documents and important files. That is unless your a power user or technician who is making a full backup to save time resintalling windows+updates and basic programs. I think you may be overcomplicating things using a program like acronis to do this as well, it's really a program for IT tech's IMO.

    Try again with a new disc this time dont surf the internet or touch the PC and disable your anti virus there should be an option to disable it from the task tray icon.

    Thank you for your advice, I will try again in the manner you suggest. The reason I am trying to make a full back up to dvd is that my Acer eRecovery feature has stopped working. When it did work it used to back up my full pc configuration to the d:\ drive and then allow me to also make a copy to dvd. I don't have a separate hard drive you see, and can't afford one at the moment. I asked on these forums for advice on another way to back up to dvd and was advised that Acronis was a good way to do it. If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate them.
