Help someone!! My daughter was bought an electric bike for Christmas (07) and its not charging up by my Grandma who passed away 2 mths ago. I've been on the phone to the store to be told that I will have to pay for the repairs as I don't have my receipt. I explained that it was a gift etc but they still said I would need to pay for the repairs. The conversation changed a little when I said that surely as they were the seller then the problem lies with them, the advisor told me then to bring the bike in and they would see what they could do. I am going to take the bike in on Sat (with my husband!) but want to know my rights before I say anything if they don't repair it or replace it for free etc.

Can anyone help!?
Thanks

I think you may find that the rights passed away along with your Grandma - the contract is between the shop and your Grandma. It's possible that the charging problem is just down to a duff battery/batteries - what sort of rechargable batteries are they - lead/acid????

Do you know how the item was paid for?

I had a problem with taking a toy back just after xmas (never worked), this too was a present from Grandma. Luckily my mum in law had bought it online and therefore toys r us were able to trace proof of purchase.

I will say it was hard work, but I stuck to my guns and got an exchange. Personally, I did't rate their customer service at all.

Hope you get the result you want and good luck
  • I'm not sure how it was paid for, probably cash knowing my Grandma!! I have heard that people have had probs taking things back to them so I think I'm in for a long hard fight!!! I wouldn't mind if my daughter had used it but she hasn't, its really only started to be used in the nice weather....!

As for the battery, I've got no idea...! All I know is that you plug it in and it chrgs etc.....! I have taken the back off to have a look and all the cables are attached etc but you never know whats lying underneath it all do you?

    Thanks for your replies.

you could try an email to

    ukcustomerservices@toysrus.com

I've found out last year that their customer service is not the best, however I did finally get my money back on an incorrect toy.
