Doing more than one job at once?

Does anybody have any experience of this?

I'm 17 and I've been working Saturday's in a bank since September but I can't get any more hours and now with it coming up to the summer I want to get a second job. But I feel sort of awkward applying for a job saying I can work whenever all summer but just not Saturday iyswim

So I was just wondering how employers generally are with people wanting to work with them as a second job? And any ideas as to where is good for summer holiday work? I'm not really picky except I don't really want to work serving food. I'm thinking maybe trying to get something stacking shelves somewhere.

In my experience, shops and supermarkets like to have set hours that people work. So, you could work mon-fri and then have overtime on the top of that to cover holidays etc.
  • Do you have any local tourist attractions? Maybe just a zoo or something? They take on extra staff over the summer so you could try there.

It can be done, but is awkward. When I started working at Comet I was already working weekends at the local ski slope teaching. Comet were great at first and let me work on my days off in the week (2 days).

But when I left the ski slope and joined my local football club and so could not work saturdays and some tuesday evenings things changed. Even though I had never worked saturday or tuesday before suddenly they wanted me to. After months of them causing problems I left.

I then found it almost impossible to get another job when saying 'I cant work saturdays' but thats probably because I was looking at retail.

Best thing to do is to write to EVERY company near you (that gets busier in the summer) and see if you can work just on your days your free. If you explain what days you are available from day one then you shouldnt have a problem.

It will be harder getting a job, BUT its definately worth a go :)

    Good advice by Kr15snw.. :)

I am looking at doing this next year when I go uni, working here there and everywhere and I'm dreading it, I can just imagine not being able to get a job easily.

Why not approach a temping agency in your area and see what they have for mon-fri office jobs on a temporary contract? They usually pay ok aswell..

I started working at football club on football days when I was 15. When I turned 17 I took on another job at Dominos in the evenings. Glad I did it, could work reosnble hours with resonble pay and still enjoy a nice game of football on Sat afternoons. And had friday nights off to spend with gf :)

I presume you are working for L*** when I worked there they were always keen to have me over the summer holidays to fill in for people taking holiday. I would probably work for 2 weeks full time at a time and by the end of the weeks I would be knackered.

Sure working Saturday is a bit of an annoyance if you want to work more, but speak to you Branch or Staff manager mine were more than approachable, if they don't work on Saturdays get a message to them or ring them up during the week.

They were relatively flexible with regard to work whilst at Uni, i.e. you would catch up with all the Saturdays (during term time) you missed, during the holidays.

I eventually left the bank because I wanted a full summer job and got a bit sick of all the sales targets and sign-ups considering where I worked - population was skewed heavily by the elderly.

Wycombe Wanderers. And was a programme seller. Was awesome though, although its with another company we used to talk to office staff anyway and if the boss didn't want to work (he lived in Surrey so it was an hour + drive) he would tell the office staff who would help us out.

Unfortunately have to work for the rugby, a lot busier as its Wasps and they're quite good!

However because it wasn't directly with the club every year I get to go to Epsom Vodafone Derby and sell racecards, which is one of the best days of the years. For weather, women and work!

Sounds good. I was a box office assistant at Plymouth Argyle (we bought Easter off you. Cheers for that by the way, hes pretty good :D) but have recently been promoted to retail support. Meaning Im going full time and using my degree (graphic design) to help them out up there :)

Love working at a football club, free tickets into the game, can somtimes blag comps to away games and get to hear all the gossip first :) Oh and then theres the uniform which is always the full kit and training kit :)

Its busy with us as we're a good team :P Lots and lots of people to serve on matchdays, although Im not doing this next year. Hurrah for the 9-5 job!

Easter is a !!!!!!, but he is good.

Now I'm at uni I don't do that really unless I am home and boss wants me to work. Playoff on Sunday which I am working for. I usually miss the first 15min of the game so I am hoping no goals will be scored then! There is a TV in the office but its always better to be out there.

Yeh actually is quite nice being a small club because a lot of the old folks who come early to games we have a chat to and it is very friendly. It also gives you an idea what the away supporters are like. some are right gits but some are actually really nice and also like to chat about the game and things :-)
