Yep get shot of it as above, when you go to install the files should be self recognised.

Once youve uninstalled the driver by doing it in device manager restart your machine and see if XP puts it back in automatically.

I tried uninstalling it and then restarted the computer. It recognised that there was new hardware and automatically prompted me to try to install it. The same thing happened as before. I'm not convinced that there is anything in the yellow XP folder when I search for it using the installation wizrd browse button. It allows you to select it and it will include it's search in that folder but it won't let me double click it at that stage and also there is no plus sign next to it.

Do you think I would be better off buying a new sound card that already comes with the CD and if so any recommendations as to make etc.?

Thanks for all your help, I really do appreciate it.

I've copied this directly from the e-bay listing so hopefully it's more accurate than if I tried! As mentioned before I don't have any of the discs as I inadvertantly threw them away.

    I've sent you a PM...
  • PACKARD BELL usually have a serial number on the rear of the case, in most circumstances you can go to their website and download the drivers as long as you have the info

    From thier website
To access information related to your PC, please enter your Serial Number (on the back of the base unit, preceded by S/N).

It loks as though you can even download a program for them to find it for you.
