(Heroin addicts, alcoholics and down and outs all receive HB)
6 Heroin addicts I have come across work full time 50% of which are on £30k plus a year so can afford it (bumped into one at the pharmacy this morning, he's on methadone and calls in for it when at work), 1 is on HB most people on HB can't afford Heroin! Most alcoholics I know are the partner of someone who works very hard, some work themselves (one inc drives for his job).....just shows how incorrect stereotypes can be. I am unsure what you mean by down and outs, maybe down on their luck because of redundancy or disability? Yes there are some idiots on HB but I would say at least 75% of them are not based on experience.

Lil_Me...I take it you have been no-where near Glasgow then?

Alcoholics, heroin addicts and ''down and outs'' are rife.

You know of 3 heroin addicts in Durham (where wages are notoriously low) that command salaries in excess of £30k?

    I'm amazed.

(I know of around 3 heroin addicts who would mug their own granny for a quick fix on the other hand)

(I agree with you, a good proportion, probably over the 75% will be reliable cases. Its the small minority that obviously gives benefit claimants a bad stereotype as the ''NO DSS'' is common throughout)

No don't think I have had the pleasure of visiting Glasgow.

Wages are a mix of high and low here, my friends are a broad mix of those from either end of the spectrum, most are in between 20k and 30k but there are many business owners, regional managers, directors etc who are on higher. Some of my friends are on benefits, some very dear friends included in those, most through unfortunate things like redundancy or disability who are struggling to get back into employment. Redundancy is another thing this area has really suffered with.

Yes unfortunately so, the 'bigger drugs' here tend to be for the wealthy mainly, but that of course is just what I have seen, it may be just because these are people I know personally and I am aware of their habits. One of those doesn't have a salary because he owns a very large business, many properties here and abroad etc to him Heroin and Cocaine are like alcohol to many, consumes it most weekends, I'd guess his car collection is close to £400k worth. I think many would be shocked if they knew they took it, especially those they do business with, but to many it's a way of life, the parties go with the drugs, the drugs help deal with the pressure according to them. Unsure what a police officers salary is currently so he'd be in the 3 under £30k, don't think his boss knows however, claims it helps with the stress. I suppose it's like those bad stories you hear on TV about stars who are addicts/users, I think people know that MOST of them have dabbled or are frequent users.
