This maybe of interest to those who must have a car to travel to work etc.,in the event of their car being off the road for repairs.

Has anyone noticed with some cheaper quotes derived from Confused.Com that you are told that your comprehensive quote covers courtesy car 'subject to availability' which seemingly means if the garage you are using has one you have it but if not the insurer will not provide one UNLESS YOU have LEGAL PRORECTION COVER then you will definately get one !

Further research on this topic has thrown up that insurers either guarantee a courtesy car or say subject to availabilty or even depends on the circumstances such as whose at fault; not suprisingly it seems the big names tend to be the ones that guarantee you a replacement car while the others are less clear.

Try Directline - there is an option to tick which guarantees you a hire car for 14 days, not only if your car is being repaired following an accident, but also if it is stolen (a neat loophole in some policies). I also found directline much cheaper than any quote on confused.com.
